Young yet rather experienced indie film director, Zach Lorkiewicz, has recently finished another of his projects, The Night Jane Went Insane. The film stars the indie horror icon, Brinke Stevens, as well as features Linnea Quigley and Michelle Bauer.
We have long been fans of Lorkiewicz’s shorts ever since he first sent us The Knock way back in 2019 (review here). Since then, we have also reviewed Loveless and The Ghost House, the latter feeling a lot like the divisive hit, Skinamarink (2022).
The Night Jane Went Insane takes us on a new, almost fun direction compared to his previous offerings. We’re left following Jane around her apartment as she seems to be doing some much-needed self-care; or at least what was considered self-care back in the early 80’s. Trashy sci-fi, hair curlers, and copious about of cigarettes. The linoleum floors, tube TVs and the Slumber Party Massacre VHS confirm my assumed timeline.
During Jane’s relaxed evening at home, the white noise of the TV and the static of the radio slowly seem to be sending her a message—one that she takes a while to fully comprehend. While not a bad ending, per se, Jane’s night does not turn out the way one would expect for what seems like a lonely, cat-less cat lady.
Lorkiewicz had this to say regarding his ideas for the short film.:
“I wanted to make something unique to Brinke, something she had never done before. While developing the idea, I researched Brinke’s life and interests – she’s such an interesting person and I tried to capture a side people never see. Then the idea came to get Michelle and Linnea involved, and it all felt very kismet.”
Thanks for reading and as usual, stay sordid. Lorkiewicz’s new film is already out on YouTube and is available for your viewing pleasure right here. The poster artwork is below.
