I have to say that when Faith No More were announced to be on the line up for Soundwave 2015 I knew it was going to be Epic. Playing all the old favourites is always a sure way to win your fans over, and it’s always a risk playing stuff that people don’t know but these guys nailed it. This band had been one of my “Bucket List Bands” since I was a wee nipper and they didn’t disappoint.
Their latest album Sol Invictus is no disappointment either.
Starting with a song that would be right at home in any big Broadway musical, the title track gently draws you in with beautiful piano and a steady marching beat. It lulls you into thinking you’re going to have an easy ride, and then smacks you in the face with Superhero.
From Motherfucker to Matador I couldn’t find a track that I didn’t like and you can tell that they put a lot of thought into the order of the tracks.
Theatrical, anthemic, technically brilliant and wonderfully diverse it’s an album of delights, taking you on a journey of discovery, delight and just plain great fucking music.
Here’s my favourite track. Wrap your ears around this, folks.
