Okay, this isn’t a review for a horror movie, or a live-action series, but for an anime horror series. I happen to be an anime geek, as well as a horror geek, so I do love it when they met. Another is a brilliant example of these two coming together, to create something glorious.
Looks cute, right? Wrong. This series is filled with very imaginative, very bloody, and very violent death scenes, and a plot that backs the art up. All very worth it.
15-year-old Koichi Sakakibara transfers to Yomiyama North Middle School, in class 3-3. Soon after his joining his new school and new class, he finds himself drawn to a mysterious girl in his class, Mei Misaki, whom everyone seems to ignore, as if she doesn’t exist.
As he tries to get closer to her, he is warned by several class members not to, even by Mei herself. Everyone tells him to ignore her, to not speak to her. He refuses and starts talking to Mei more, and starts to look into a strange mystery that surrounds the school. Soon after, strange and terrible deaths started occurring in the school…
Such as the class teacher coming into the class, pulling a knife out of his bag, and suddenly violently stabbing himself in the throat.
Then a girl running from class with her umbrella, tripping over the stairs, falling down them, and accidentally impaling herself on her umbrella.
Later on, the students go on a rampage, in a frenzy, trying to stop the deaths by killing each other.
And a student getting impaled by shards of glass from a broken window.
Eventually the carnage ends, but at the cost of many lives.
All in all, a favourite amongst anime lovers, but also a great story in general with lots of lovely violence and gore. Definitely a winner in my book!
I give it a solid 7/10.
