Small Town Monsters and director Seth Breedlove present a stunning new documentary in their On The Trail Of Series. This time we get On The Trail of Bigfoot – The Discovery, a follow on from Seth Breedlove’s On The Trail of Bigfoot – The Journey which was released earlier this year.
Upon seeing the title I was a bit wary as it suggested sensationalised evidence, the kind many other filmmakers proclaim to have found. So with some trepidation, I started to watch worrying that this time I would be disappointed by a Small Town Monsters documentary, which, as anyone who has read my previous Small Town Monsters reviews would know, would be a first.
I quickly became engrossed in the film and soon all my concerns were put to rest and I quickly found myself invested in one of the best documentaries on the topic I have ever seen. The reason for this is that despite the title, Breedlove and Small Town Monsters didn’t deviate from their usual format. What truly set this apart from other similar documentaries in my mind was in fact the evidence, the people involved, and the way the evidence was handled and presented.
As in The Journey, neither Breedlove nor the members of the Olympics Project, a group of amateur Sasquatch researchers, denied their steadfast belief that Bigfoot is, in fact, real. However, their beliefs did not taint their evidence. The group themselves, while all staunch believers, many who have had encounters of varying sorts either before or after joining the group, does not simply try to find anything they can claim as evidence. Quite the contrary. The group will gather evidence, be it audio recordings etc., and go out of their way to see if they can possibly identify it as anything other than a bigfoot.
However, on top of this, some of the evidence they present, such as the nests, is some of the most compelling physical evidence I have ever seen in any documentary. You’ll find no blurry photos or possible sightings of the creature itself in this documentary, but you will discover a fair amount of possible evidence, carefully collected by a group of amateur sleuths with a wide array of skills and knowledge, all of whom share their own experiences, adding to the potential evidence.
Whatever your stance on the existence of cryptids such as Bigfoot, this is one documentary that is sure to give you some pause and possibly reevaluate your own beliefs. Does bigfoot exist? Who knows, but this documentary will more than likely make you more willing to accept the possibility that something truly is out there. On the Trail of Bigfoot: The Discovery will be available to purchase or rent on November 2nd on a number of platforms from 1091 Pictures, including iTunes, Amazon Prime Video, Vudu and FandangoNOW.
