Upon his wife’s suggestion, Raimo (Jouko Puolanto) posts a note seeking a squash playmate in the commons area of his public housing flat. Before long, a new family moves in next door to the couple and it is apparent that they are quite unique in appearance and lifestyle.
The patriarch, Maki (Janne Reinikainen), heads up the family of face-painted Satanic sex cult members who look as though they might moonlight as a Swedish black metal band when they aren’t participating in sex torture orgies and unspeakably dark games of Twister.
Raimo seems a bit reluctant to associate with his new neighbors and soon loses his patience when their late night and noisy ‘activities’ keep him awake…but seem to intrigue his wife, Kirsi (Minna Suuronen). She points out that her husband is usually quite open-minded and tolerant and becomes annoyed with his sudden deviation and “double standards” regarding their strange new neighbors.
Maki is unrelenting in his attempts to win Raimo over, even joining his gym in hopes that he may partner in games of squash with him. Raimo does not reciprocate and, fed up with his behavior, his wife promptly locks him out of their flat in disgust.
This hysterically funny dark comedy short is about slipping into middle-aged boring lives, making new friends, socially acceptable behavior, tolerance and double standards, unfulfilled libidos, naked men on inverted crosses, and, of course, bunny rabbits and Satanic sex cults. The use of the bunny as a theme throughout makes for a hilarious punchline finale!
I thoroughly enjoyed this off-beat picture and I highly recommend it. The short film runs approximately 17 minutes, so keep that in mind if you are tempted to bail out early. Also, if things get too rough for you, just remember…the safe word is ‘Fluffy Bunnies’.
