Rakefet Abergel (Boo, Jax in Love, Shameless) is at it again. The indie horror writer, producer, actor, and director has begun work on her next (great?) project with STILL. The upcoming short film, based on an award-winning script, is still currently in its crowdfunding stage on Seed & Spark (link here), with production scheduled to begin towards the end of May 2023.
Here’s the teaser trailer to get that blood pumping:
Abergel had this to say about the film’s production:
I suffered a miscarriage about a year and a half ago and it was heartbreaking. Still is about how hard it is to survive losing a child – a child you held or one you never met. It’s about how well-meaning words can feel empty, meaningless, and hurtful to someone suffering a loss,” said Abergel, who also wrote, and will produce and direct the film. “If you’ve lost a baby, I hope this film brings you healing and inspires understanding in others.
This is the third film from Abergel’s production company, Cyclamen Films. We’ve had the pleasure of watching and reviewing the first two, with links to those reviews posted above. While I wasn’t a huge fan of the first film, Boo really blew me away. It cleverly mixed elements of the struggles of addiction with horror tropes to present us with a bite-sized burst of fun. Still seems to be stearing away from the themes of her previous productions to bring us something altogether new.
The screenplay for STILL won the Director’s Choice Award for Best Short Screenplay at Austin Revolution Film Festival, as well as the Shawna Spirit Award for Best Short Screenplay at the Shawna Shea Memorial Film Festival. The script was also a finalist at Nightmares Film Festival and Filmquest in 2022.
You can follow the film’s progress on social media here and on the Seed & Spark page posted above. Thanks for reading and as always, stay sordid.
