2022 brings with it War, Pestilence, Greed and renewed malice in the form of Black Magnet’s spite-fueled “Body Prophecy” released 29 July through 20 Buck Spin.
Best played at obscene volumes, this 11-track masterpiece is familiar fodder for fans of the nihilistic nuances of the best the industrial world has to offer. Thundering guitar and sadistic synths are woven into a tapestry of insane noise that is bound to leave those with robot ears in ecstasy.
Hailing from Oklahoma City, the 3 piece band are spirited upstarts who’ve brought their own distinct flavor to an old blend of numbing noise that leaves you foaming at the mouth and befriending a bottle of pills.
Performed by James Hammontree, Body Prophecy was engineered and mixed by Sanford Parker at Hypercube Studios (Youth Code, Statiqbloom, Bloodyminded), mastered by Colin Jordan at the Boiler Room (Ministry, Pigface, Eyehategod), and completed with artwork by Jesse Draxler (Nine Inch Nails, Ghostmane, H09909) and photos by Johnny Bohlen. Live, Hammontree is joined by Ryne Bratcher on guitar and Eric Goreman on synth.
Crunching and pounding one’s consciousness into submission, there’s nothing left to do but bang your head – provided you have robot ears and a penchant for malice-based music. It’s definitely the best thing I’ve let destroy my tympanic hairs in recent memory.
With odes to Drum & Bass, Hardstyle, and Numetal this fresh take is bound to breathe new life into a genre that is far too quick to become derivative of techno. Black Magnet demonstrates the ferocity of a rabid hyena whilst maintaining the poise of a debutant in their immaculate delivery of a mind echoing madness.
Crank this banger as loud as humanly possible, kick back and just enjoy the melody;
