Well, I’m halfway through the season, just past episode 6 (yeah I’m a little behind…) and I can’t say that this season is grabbing me as much as the others did.
For me, it’s lacking the twists and turns that we had in the other seasons, like Freak Show, and I don’t feel any affinity to any of the characters so far (bring back Jessica Lange, right?!)
We miss you, Elsa Mars
The sex scenes seem gratuitous and just there to give the audience something to ooh about but overall I’m finding it quite predictable, slow and so far my least favourite of the seasons so far.
It’s not all negative though. I think Lady Gaga is doing a fine job of being the detached, heartless Countess Elizabeth, and Wes Bentley’s descent into madness as the detective John Lowe is enjoyable and believable. The hotel is beautiful and the scenes and costumes are magnificent, so I’m going to stick with it, hope that it gets better in the rest of the season.
